Light Seeker is a collection of hundreds of abstract pinhole photographic soft sculptures. They are objects of comfort because of their plush pillow form, and the imagery is from the process of capturing the moments of calming down from being anxious or overwhelmed.
Abstraction allows the mind to escape. Representational imagery cannot truly convey emotion the way that abstraction can. By using abstraction instead of representational/documentational imagery, it allows a shift from a negative anxious experience into imagery that is a surprise, full of wonder, or chaotic but not tied to a certain place or object. Every part of the process is done hundreds of times, but that repetition still creates something new each time. It becomes an obsession of process, collection, surprise, and wonder.
Our eyes seek light in the darkness. The light hits our eyes so that we can see the expanse of the stars above to the insects flying around to the rocks on the ground. We are drawn to light and seek comfort from the darkness.
